Professional engine builders know that cast iron blocks were never
meant to have head bolts used over and over again. Repeated tightening
of these bolts will eventually strip the cast iron threads from
the block. Most engine builders install studs permanently into the
block. Head studs will clamp a head on the block tighter without
pulling the top of the cylinder bore out-of-round.
B&B Head
Studs are made from the finest quality 8740 chrome-moly steel within
the highest quality control requirements. They feature rolled threads.
Each stud is centerless ground after heat-treating to remove surface
irregularities. All studs are finished in a rich black oxide. Stud
kits come complete with heat-treated alloy nuts and parallel ground
and heat-treated alloy washers.
