Note: These
special studs are available in Chevy Main Stud Kits. They permit
easy mounting of O.E.M. or aftermarket windage trays.
|
In a race engine the main bearing caps are subjected to loads much
greater than those encountered in passenger car applications. As
RPM and cylinder pressures increase, so does the need for a stable
crankshaft support. Engine builders have known for a long time that
coarse threaded bolts are not the ideal fastener in this environment.
Studs are the preferred method of clamping the main bearing caps
to the block to help prevent cap walk and chatter.
Like our head
studs, B&B Main Studs are constructed from top quality 8740
chrome-moly steel. Rigid quality control standards insure you of
precision rolled threads and a stud which is centerless ground,
after heat-treating, to remove all surface irregularities. All main
cap stud kits contain black oxidized studs, heat-treated alloy nuts,
and parallel ground, heat-treated washers.
